Laylatul Qadr (Night of Power)

Following are some Hadeeth regarding Laylatul Qadr

Hadeeth #1:

محمد بن يحيى‏ عن أحمد بن محمد عن الحسين بن سعيد عن الحسن عن سليمان الجعفري قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ع صَلِّ لَيْلَةَ إِحْدَى وَ عِشْرِينَ وَ لَيْلَةَ ثَلَاثٍ وَ عِشْرِينَ مِائَةَ رَكْعَةٍ تَقْرَأُ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ- قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ

Muḥammad b. Yaḥya from Aḥmad b. Muḥammad from al-Ḥussayn b. Sa`īd from al-Ḥasan from Sulaymān al-Ja`farī said, Abū al-Ḥasan (عليه السلام) said: “Pray on the twenty-first (21st) and the twenty-third (23rd) a one hundred rak`ah (salāh), and recite (after al-Fātiḥah) in every rak`ah – Sūrah al-Ikhlās (Sūrah # 112) ten times.”

Hadeeth #2:

محمد بن يعقوب، عن عدة من أصحابنا، عن أحمد بن محمد، عن علي بن الحكم، عن سيف بن عميرة، عن حسان بن مهران، عن أبي عبدالله (عليه السلام) قال: سألته عن ليلة القدر؟ فقال: التمسها في ليلة إحدى وعشرين أو ليلة ثلاث وعشرين

1 - A group of our companions from Ahmad b. Muhammad from `Ali b. al-Hakam from Sayf b. `Umayra from Hassan b. Mihran from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام.  He said: I asked him about the Night of Qadr.  So he said: Seek it [in] the twenty first night or the twenty third night.

Hadeeth #3:

3 أحمد بن محمد، عن الحسين بن سعيد، عن فضالة بن أيوب، عن العلاء بن رزين، عن محمد بن مسلم، عن أحدهما (عليهما السلام) قال: سألته عن علامة ليلة القدر فقال: علامتها أن تطيب ريحها وإن كانت في برد دفئت وإن كانت في حر بردت، فطابت قال: وسئل عن ليلة القدر فقال: تنزل فيها الملائكة والكتبة إلى السماء الدنيا فتكتبون ما يكون في أمر السنة وما يصيب العباد وأمره عنده موقوف له وفيه 
المشيئة فيقدم منه ما يشاء ويؤخر منه ما يشاء ويمحو ويثبت وعنده أم الكتاب.

3 – Ahmad b. Muhammad from al-Husayn b. Sa`id from Fadala b. Ayyub from al-`Ala b. Razin from Muhammad b. Muslim from one of the two عليهما السلام.  He said: I asked him about the signs of the Night of Qadr.  So he said: Its signs are that its wind (reeh or, scent) is perfumed.  And if it is in (the) cold it warms up, and if it is in heat it cools, so it becomes good (or, appealing).  He said: And he was asked about the Night of Qadr.  So he said: The angels and the writers descend in it to the sky of the world, and they write what shall be of the command of the year, and what shall happen to the servants. And His command is stopped (? mawquf) with Him, for Him and in it is the will (al-mashi’a), so He advances of it what He wills and delays of it what He wills, and He erases and He establishes, and with Him is the Mother of the Book.  (sahih)

Hadeeth #4:

4 علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه، عن ابن أبي عمير، عن غيرواحد، عن أبي عبدالله (ع) قالوا: قال له بعض أصحابنا قال: ولا أعلمه إلا سعيد السمان: كيف يكون ليلة القدر خيرا من ألف شهر؟ قال: العمل فيها خير من العمل في ألف شهر ليس فيها ليلة القدر.

4 - `Ali b. Ibrahim from his father from Ibn Abi `Umayr from more than one from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام.  They said: Some of our companions said to him: He said: And I do not know them (lit. him) except for Sa`id the butter-merchant: How is the Night of Qadr better than a thousand months?  He said: The deed (done) in it is better than the deed (done) in a thousand months wherein there is not the Night of Qadr.

Hadeeth #5:

6 علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه، عن ابن أبي عمير، عن عمر بن اذينة، عن الفضيل ; و زرارة، ومحمد بن مسلم، عن حمران أنه سأل أبا جعفر (ع) عن قول الله عزوجل: " إنا أنزلناه في ليلة مباركة " قال: نعم ليلة القدر وهي في كل سنة في شهر رمضان في العشر الاواخر فلم ينزل القرآن إلا في ليلة القدر قال الله عزوجل: " فيها يفرق كل أمر حكيم " قال: يقدر في ليلة القدر كل شئ يكون في تلك السنة إلى مثلها من قابل خير وشر وطاعة ومعصية ومولود وأجل أو رزق فما قدر في تلك السنة وقضى فهو المحتوم ولله عزوجل فيه المشيئة، قال: قلت: " ليلة القدر خير من ألف شهر " أي شئ عنى بذلك؟ فقال: العمل الصالح فيها من الصلاة والزكاة وأنواع الخير خير من العمل في ألف شهر ليس فيها ليلة القدر ; ولو لا ما يضاعف الله تبارك وتعالى للمؤمنين ما بلغوا و لكن الله يضاعف لهم الحسنات [بحبنا].

6 - `Ali b. Ibrahim from his father from Ibn Abi `Umayr from `Umar b. Udhayna from al-Fudayl and Zurara and Muhammad b. Muslim from Hamran that he asked about Ja`far عليه السلام about the saying of Allah `azza wa jalla “Verily We sent it down in a blessed night” (44:3) He said: Yes, the Night of Qadr, and it is in every year in the month of Ramadan in the last ten (nights).  So, the Quran was not revealed except for in the Night of Qadr.  Allah `azza wa jalla said “In it is distinguished every wise command.” (44:4)   He said: In the Night of Qadr the destiny (al-qadr) of every thing that will be in that year to its like is ordained, from the next (year’s) good and evil, and obedience and sinning, and born and due (? ajal) or sustenance.  So what is ordained in that year and decreed, then it is inevitable (mahtum), and for Allah `azza wa jalla is the will (al-mashiyya) in it.  He said: I said: “The Night of Qadr is better than a thousand month”, (97:3) what thing was meant by that?  So he said: The righteous act in it of salat, and zakat, and the types of good, is better than the act in a thousand months wherein there is not the Night of Qadr.  And were it not, Allah tabaraka wa ta`ala would not multiply for the believers what they have reached.  However, Allah multiplies their good deeds for them [by our love].

Hadeeth #6:

9 عدة من أصحابنا، عن أحمد بن محمد، عن علي بن الحكم، عن ابن بكير، عن زرارة قال: قال أبوعبدالله (ع): التقدير في ليلة تسع عشرة والابرام في ليلة إحدى وعشرين والامضاء في ليلة ثلاث وعشرين.

9 – A group of our companions from Ahmad b. Muhammad from `Ali b. al-Hakam from Ibn Bukayr from Zurara.  He said: Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام said: The allocation (at-taqdeer) is in the nineteenth night, and the confirmation (al-ibram) is in the twenty-first night, and the execution (al-imda) is in the twenty-third night.

Hadeeth #7:

1 علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه، عن ابن أبي عمير، عن حماد، عن الحلبي قال. قال أبوعبدالله عليه السلام: إذا كان الرجل على عمل فليدم عليه سنة ثم يتحول عنه إن شاء إلى غيره وذلك أن ليلة القدر يكون فيها في عامه(2) ذلك، ما شاء الله أن يكون(3).

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabi who has said the following:

“Abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, has said, ‘If a man does a good deed, he should continue for a year before ending, if he may so wish, to perform another good deed. This is because the night of destiny (Laylatul Qadr) comes in this year in which things that  Allah wills come into being.’”

Hadeeth #8:

146 - حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن يحيى العطار قال: حدثنا أبي قال: حدثنا محمد بن أبي الصهبان عن ابن أبي عمير قال: قال موسى بن جعفر عليه السلام: من اغتسل ليلة القدر وأحياها إلى طلوع الفجر خرج من ذنوبه

Narrated Ahmed ibn Mohammed ibn Yahya al-Attar Narrated my father narrated Mohammed ibn Abi al-Sabhan from Ibn Abi umair he said : Musa ibn Jafar(as) said : "Whoever does ghusl (full body wash) in the Night of Qadr and worshipped in it till dawn, then he comes out of his Sins.
